Highlands Ranch is celebrating its 35th birthday in 2016!

Highlands Ranch is considered one of the most progressive master-planned communities in the country. Sixty-one percent of the community is devoted to non-urban uses such as open spaces and recreation; which translates to more than 2,000 acres of open space, 70 miles of paved and natural trails, 16 local parks, three community parks, and one regional park. Highlands Ranch also offers four full scale, state of the art recreation centers for resident use and two 18-hole golf courses.

There are 19 elementary schools, four middle schools and five high schools in the Highlands Ranch school district along with numerous public day care facilities. Highlands Ranch has an about average rating for all schools throughout the district according to greatschools.org. Highlands Ranch, Mountain Vista, Rock Canyon, and Thunder Ridge are members of the 5A Continental North Football Conference. All Douglas county high schools belong to the Continental League for other sports and activities.
